The Woodstock Concerts on the Green are sponsored by the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce & Arts and produced by the Woodstock Music Shop. Through the combined volunteer efforts of musicians & music enthusiasts, we are entering our 5th season and hope to make this year the best yet. The Concerts on the Green have developed into a tradition, building community, promoting business and most importantly giving local musicians a chance to share their music with locals and visitors.
Eight free concerts are scheduled through out the summer with fantastic local talent performing for residents and tourists alike in the center of the town. This year, Woodstock Music Shop's Jeff Harrigfeld is taking over the event from Rennie Cantine who has produced the concerts for the last four years. Rennie will be producing the August 21st Concert on the Green this year as part of the annual Guitar Festival.
For such a small town, the name of Woodstock is internationally known for the creative impact it had on the world. Though the festival in 1969 was held in Bethel, NY, the idea for it grew out of smaller, homegrown events that had been taking place here in Woodstock, NY for years called the "Sound Outs". For the past four years the Concerts on the Green have tried to capture some of the spirit of these legendary Sound Outs.
The Woodstock "Green" is the name given to Woodstock's town square. On any given day of the week, one can find a myriad of different people; some local, some from close by, and some from the other side of the globe. There are always a few artists, musicians and entertainers giving whoever walks by a taste of their creative side. It also acts as center stage for a number of planned events including Halloween and the arrival of Santa on Christmas Eve.
Since this is an outdoor event, weather may cause it to be canceled. There are no rain dates, but concerts will be rescheduled for a later date if canceled.
