WMS CELEBRATES WOODSTOCK 40TH

August 10, 2009
WMS

On Monday, August 17, Abigail Yasgur, relative of the famed Max Yasgur, will visit the Woodstock Music Shop to autograph copies of a new children's book she co-authored about the Woodstock Festival. The FREE event kicks off at 11 a.m. on the lawn in front of the shop – if necessary, it will be moved inside.

The Woodstock Music Shop is pleased to be part of the Woodstock Music and Art Fair’s 40th Anniversary celebration. The three-day concert, which featured two dozen acts from August 15-17, 1969, was a cornerstone of the counterculture explosion.

"Max Said Yes -- The Woodstock Story" is written by Abigail and Joseph Lipner, with illustrations by Barbara Mendes. The book, designed for children, tells the story of the upstate New York farmer who said "yes" to the music festival that made history.

The book is richly illustrated and, through those drawings and words, brings children inside the birth of the Woodstock Nation.

Go to www.maxsaidyes.com to learn more about the book.

For each autographed purchase, the child will receive a gift bag and be entered in a raffle to win a ukulele, courtesy of the shop. The winning name/ticket will be drawn at the end of the event, sometime around 3 p.m.

Additionally, the shop will provided activities for the kids, to include arts and crafts, handmade instrument making and a jam session. And recording duo Mike & Ruthy will perform live. Ruthy is the daughter of Grammy award-winning fiddler Jay Unger. Before going out on their own, Mike and Ruthy played with The Mammals. Their newest CD, “Waltz of the Chickadee,” is available at www.cdbaby.com.

For more information, call the shop at (845) 679-3224.
