April 14, 2009
WMS

Levon Helm – famed drummer for The Band and longtime Woodstocker – released his "Electric Dirt" on June 30.  It is a follow-up CD to his award-winning “Dirt Farmer."  You can purchase "Electric Dirt" at the shop.

“Dirt Farmer” was released October 30, 2007, and was Helm’s first solo studio album in over 25 years. It was recorded at his private studio in Woodstock and includes Amy Helm, Helm’s daughter from Ollabelle, multi-instrumentalist Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams, Campbell’s wife. Helm won a Grammy in the Best Traditional Folk Album category for “Dirt Farmer” at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards in 2008 and received The Americana Music Association’s Artist of the Year award late last year.

“Electric Dirt” also was recorded at Helm’s studio and is produced by Campbell, best known for his stint with Bob Dylan’s “Never Ending Tour” band from 1997 to 2004. Additionally, he's worked with such legendary artists as Elvis Costello, Sheryl Crow, Levon Helm, David Johansen, B.B. King, Cyndi Lauper and Willie Nelson, among many others. Campbell is a frequent guest artist at Helm's Midnight Rambles.

In addition to covers, “Electric Dirt” will include “Growing Trade,” a song co-written by Helm and Campbell that tells the struggle of the American farmer.

You can read more about Helm in out Who’s Who section, or go to www.levonhelm.com.
