A longtime Woodstocker, Levon Helm has deep roots in our town and has always given back. His Midnight Ramble sessions – which take place at his private recording studio and include special guest musicians – have emerged as "must" experiences for fans and music lovers of all kinds. And his live performances continue to inspire, delight and exhaust audiences across the country.
Here’s a look at upcoming Rambles:
Sat, Jan 10: Levon Helm Band, with special guest Hubert Sumlin. Sumlin is an American blues singer/guitarist and is best known for his stint in the Howlin’ Wolf’s band, fronted by Chester Burnett (a.k.a. Howlin’ Wolf). He’s been recognized by Rolling Stone in the top 100 of greatest guitarists of all time. For more about Sumlin, go to: http://www.hubertsumlinblues.com.
Sat, Jan 17: Levon Helm Band, with special guest The Wood Brothers. The Wood Brothers are Chris and Oliver Wood. Chris is best known for his work with Medeski, Martin and Wood and Oliver played in the band King Johnson. Sat, Jan 24: Levon Helm Band, with special guest The Reddan Brothers. The Reddan Brothers hail from Warwick, NY, and include John Reddan (guitar, vocals), Chris Reddan (drums, vocals) and Mike Garofalo (bass, vocals). Check ‘em out at: http://www.myspace.com/johnreddan.
Fri, Jan 30: Special Acoustic Ramble, with Amy Helm, Larry Campbell, Jimmy Vivino and Teresa Williams. Levon is not scheduled to appear. Helm formed her band, Ollabelle, in 2001. To date, they’ve released two CDs. Their newest collaboration – “Riverside Battle Songs” – was produced by multi-instrumentalist Campbell, best known for his stint with Bob Dylan’s “Never Ending Tour” band. He is considered one of the best stringed musicians around. Vivino is best known for his work on the Late Night with Conan O’Brien Show. He's worked with numerous artists, including Woodstocker John Sebastian, Paul Shaffer, Ronnie Spector and Al Kooper, among others.
Sat, Jan 31: Levon Helm Band, with special guest Bow Thayer and Perfect Trainwreck. The band consists of members Bow Thayer, Jeff Berlin, Jeremy Moses Curtis and Steve Mayone. Check out the band at: http://www.bowthayer.com.
